Ontario’s professional fire fighters protect 85% of Ontario’s population.  Our members are the full-time professional fire fighters throughout the province providing vital public services in full-time and composite fire departments.

Our members provide a variety of services including, but not limited to, emergency response (fire suppression and rescue to vehicle extrication, ice/water rescue, hazardous material response and emergency medical response), fire investigation, prevention and public education for citizens of all ages in Ontario.  Our members also provide emergency communication, training and mechanical support required to make the fire service function.

Public expectation and recognition is at an all time high.  The fire service has responded and evolved into a multifaceted emergency service.

As your union we must also be multifaceted.

The Ontario Professional Fire Fighters Association’s (OPFFA) role in conjunction with the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) is  'protecting the protectors'.

Fire fighters representing fire fighters have provided for success in our labour relations strategies similarly to the same teamwork that allows for success on the emergency scene.

From our elected representatives through our staff and committees the OPFFA has become an organization that is widely envied and respected.  Our commitment to our representation has provided a history replete with victories.

These previous gains have provided a solid foundation for us to continue to improve our salary and working conditions, our compensation for work related injuries and illness and our health and safety.

This document will outline the services and assistance the OPFFA can provide to our members.  Be it at the local level, with municipal councils, the provincial government or other agencies affecting the health and well being of professional fire fighters the OPFFA is well prepared to represent the best interest of our members.
