The OPFFA is preparing for the fast approaching annual convention. One of the highlights will be the address of the Hero to Hero Campaign.
Started in Tacoma Washington by Liz Jackson, the Hero to Hero campaign is targeted to boost the morale of our military personnel fighting oversees by having Police Officers and Fire Fighters donate shirts for the soldiers. The goal this year is to collect 2000 shirts from coast to coast with an objective to try and get a soldier his hometown shirt if possible. All delegates to convention are encouraged to bring shirts from their local departments or locals with them for a presentation to the representative of the Hero to Hero Campaign.

The 2008 Convention will also showcase the OPFFA's inaugural Strategic Bargaining Session. This will be the first time in our history where locals from across the province will be focusing on setting strategic priorities for bargaining and establishing a game plan to attain those goals. "I'm excited about the development of a more coordinated and provincial approach to bargaining" said OPFFA President Fred LeBlanc. "Given the opposition we have experienced regarding recognition pay across the province where we saw the majority of our locals forced into a lengthy and costly arbitration process, it is our hope that this 'session' will assist locals to avoid arbitration in the future" he continued.
The convention will also deal with constitutional and policy matters reserved for conventions, the election of OPFFA Officers, and the delegates will hear from the Hon. Rick Bartolucci, Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services and the Hon. Jim Bradley, Minister of Transportation.
The OPFFA Convention will be held at the Blue Mountain Resort from June 8-11, 2008.
