Congratulations Barrie PFFA - Muscular Dystrophy Canada’s National Fire Department of the Year!, 6/25/2010
Muscular Dystrophy Canada would like to congratulate the Barrie Professional Fire Fighters Association for winning the National Fire Department of the Year Award. The annual awards program recognizes the outstanding support of Fire Departments, Fire Fighters and other volunteers who support our mission. When determining the winners, the Selection Committee considers various criteria which include fundraising, public awareness, services, education and advocacy.
More than 600 Canadian Fire Departments supported those affected with muscular dystrophy last year. The Barrie Boot Drive raised $54,136 and involved 275 people whose combined volunteer hours totaled 1,050. Fire Fighters, retirees, Georgian College Fire Students, local politicians, businesses and media as well as family, friends and clients are all a part of this successful event.
Since 1970, the Barrie Local has raised $790,945 for those affected with muscular dystrophy. Congratulations to the Barrie Fire Fighters! You are so deserving of this award and we are honoured to recognize you for your dedication and commitment this past year. The presentation of the award will take place in September.
