INTRODUCTION
The OPFFA Graphic Licence Plate program was successfully launched at the 2008 Fall Dr. Eric Taylor Educational Seminar on October 6, 2008. The OPFFA received the first 200 plates in our series that began at 01PF01. These plates were numbered sequentially 01PF01, 01PF02, 01PF03 etc.
Delegates directly purchased 111 plates and 6 Local numbers have been pulled as per the Executive Board's direction. Due to the advice of our legal counsel we did not distribute plates to delegates who held applications for other members. Any applications received at the seminar that are not complete (i.e. no signature of the President will be returned to the member).
As per the Ministry's contract the OPFFA is the legal owner of each plate until such is registered to a member's vehicle. As such our legal counsel has developed a Transfer of Liability form which is now on the website and part of the Application process. We will only be distributing plates directly to the member at the address provided on the Application form (a PO Box will not be acceptable).
An updated list of current plates in stock is available on the OPFFA website and will be drawn in accordance with the process set out below. We will be contacting those members whose applications are currently on file and have requested numbers not currently available to determine if they would like a randomly numbered plate as an alternative to their requested number. If they do not want a random plate we will return their Application and payment. Only numbers available or currently on order will be accepted as requests (there will be no reservations of 'future' numbers).
The Executive Board has authorized me to order an additional 100 plates (see list of numbers on the website). The turnaround time will be approximately 6-8 weeks for plate arrival at the OPFFA office. During that time we will continue to accept Applications. Notwithstanding when we receive these additional plates in the office we will still conduct the draw in accordance with our process as we are maintaining a record of who has received which plate as well as when Applications, Transfer of Liability Forms and payment were received in the office. If more plates are required the Executive Board will determine at that time how many more plates to order.
The OPFFA Executive Board spent a considerable amount of time debating a process that would be as flexible and fair as possible for the distribution of these plates for those in attendance at the seminar. Overall we received favourable comments about the process and as such the Executive Board has now finalized the following process for how Graphic Plates will be distributed from the OPFFA office (all of which is posted on the OPFFA website under the Graphic Plate 'button').
We strongly encourage you to notify your members to go to the OPFFA website and click on the Graphic Plate button for all of this information and appropriate paper work. An article will also appear in the next Intrepid detailing the plate program and process for ordering.
The current licence plate numbers in stock and on order will be listed on the website and we will be conducting our first draw on November 4, 2008.
We hope the members enjoy this unique opportunity to display their pride in their membership.
Fraternally,
Fred LeBlanc,
President, OPFFA
