FUNERAL INFORMATION FOR RETIRED TORONTO FIRE FIGHTER AND FORMER IAFF CANADIAN DIRECTOR, JACK JESSOP

It is with great sadness we inform you of the passing of retired Toronto Fire Service member (1945 – 1969) and former IAFF Canadian Director (1969 – 1990) Jack Jessop, January 9, 2011. Jack was involved in numerous ground breaking issues while active in the Toronto Local and later as the IAFF Canadian Director. The knowledge and assistance Jack shared with all Locals in all aspects of the fire service, including the hours of work arbitration (chaired by Dr. Eric Taylor) in Toronto, which established the 42 hour work week, laid the foundation for others to follow. Jack retired from the IAFF in 1990 but never lost touch with his fire fighter family. As recently as Christmas, he engaged in conversations regarding the movement to 24 hour shifts in the fire service in Ontario. Jack is the father of active Toronto District Chief, John Jessop and the grandfather of active Toronto Fire Fighter, Doug McNeilage.

The arrangements for Jack's celebration of life are below. Those attending the visitation and/or the service are requested to wear full dress uniform with decorations. Please refer back to this site for any changes that might occur.

The visitation is from 14:00 - 16:00 and 19:00 - 21:00 on Friday, January 14, 2011 at the Lannin's Funeral Home (http://www.lannin.ca/About.htm), 32 Main St. East, Smiths Falls - 613 283-7225.

The funeral service will be held in the chapel at Lannin's Funeral Home Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 11:00.

Donations to the Smiths Falls Legion Poppy Fund would be appreciated.
