I am pleased to announce that recent affiliation and re-affiliation efforts have proved positive.

In June 2009 OPFFA President LeBlanc along with 1st District Vice President Ernie Thorne addressed the members of the Pearson Professional Fire Fighters Association – IAFF Local 4382 regarding affiliation with the with the Ontario Professional Fire Fighters Association. On October 7, 2009 Local 4382 voted to affiliate.

On October 8 & 9, 2009 OPFFA President Fred LeBlanc, Executive Vice President Mark McKinnon, Secretary/Treasurer Barry Quinn, and IAFF 13th District Vice President Bruce Carpenter addressed a double membership meeting of the Mississauga Fire Fighters Association  - IAFF Local 1212 regarding re-affiliation with the OPFFA.

A mail-in ballot process followed and on November 4, 2009 the votes were counted with a positive result in support of Local 1212’s re-affiliation.

This is the first time since 1983 that all IAFF Locals across Ontario are also affiliated with the OPFFA.

President LeBlanc said, "This is a great day for the OPFFA and professional fire fighters across Ontario. I would like to thank the Executive Boards of Local 4382 and Local 1212 for their support and efforts to make this historic day a reality."

The OPFFA will be hosting a Special Convention on November 30th in Toronto where the delegates will be joined by IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger to mark this occasion.
